We had another 8″ of snow dumped on us last night and it’s tempting to think that spring and little green shoots will forever be smooshed down and hidden under heaps of this white stuff.
Even before the most recent snow, this guy was looking longingly for any sign of life!
Maybe we’ll never ever see the lavender of lilac bushes or the pink of tulips again! Maybe we’ll never smell the enticing aroma of burgers on the grill, or feel the warm pavement under bare feet! ARRGH! Stop the madness!! Before we despair, a couple of life-giving links on this One Word Friday.

Here are the books I’ve been reading lately, but I just want to highlight two that fit the theme of “choose life”
All In by Mark Batterson
What’s it about: If Jesus isn’t Lord of all He’s not Lord at all. This book, like all of Mark’s is challenging and passionate. Mark’s books are powerful because he lives out what he teaches. Here are some favorite quotes:
“Whatever you don’t turn into praise turns into pride.”
“Which do you love more: the dream God gave you or the God who gave you the dream?”
“What do you find your identity in? What do you find your security in? That’s your Isaac.”
Where the Wind Leads by Vinh Chung
I loved this book because it gave me a better understanding of what it’s like to be an immigrant or refugee in America. Here’s what Vinh writes about his book:
This is a story that spans two continents, ten decades, and eleven thousand miles.
When I was three and a half years old, my family was forced to flee Vietnam in June 1979, a place we had never heard of somewhere in the heartland of America.
Several weeks later my family lay half-dead from dehydration in a derelict fishing boat jammed with ninety-three refugees lost in the middle of the South China Sea. We arrived in the United States with nothing but the clothes on our backs and unable to speak a single word of English.
Today my family holds twenty-one university degrees.
How we got from there to here is quite a story.
